What is the best way to get to know a librarian? By getting them to talk about books, of course! Each month, we will introduce you to one of the librarians of Ohrstrom Library. This month, we talked to Mrs. Karla Kittler, 2022 Toland Award winner and Head of Programming and User Experience.
We asked Mrs. Kittler…
What was your first library?
“The Pollard Memorial Library located in Lowell, Massachusetts. I have distinct memories of walking through the front doors to a grand room filled with books. My sister and I would head right to the children’s room and surround ourselves with our favorite stories.”
Who are your top five favorite authors?
What are your three “desert island” books?
Harry Potter (complete series) by J. K. Rowling
The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom
Once Upon a Chef: The Cookbook by Jennifer Segal
What is the last book that made you laugh or cry or both?
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
If you could time travel, when and where would you go?
“I would like to go back to my hometown of Lowell, MA sometime during the Industrial Revolution.”
What is your favorite room in Ohrstrom Library?
“Baker Reading room in a snowstorm. It’s like being inside a snow globe!”
What was your favorite subject/class in school?
“Music. I play the piano and I love to sing.”
Why do you like being a librarian at SPS?
“Working with our students to help them achieve their academic goals is a very rewarding feeling for me as a librarian.”
