This year, Ohrstrom Library is excited to begin a new endeavor of bringing rotating exhibits to our space that support the library’s mission to equip community members with the skills, resources, and experiences essential for fuller engagement with the world.
Choosing to Participate is the first exhibit in this series. A collaboration between the Smithsonian Institute of Traveling Exhibition Service and Facing History and Ourselves, the posters present the experiences of individuals and communities, explore the impact of cultural differences, and encourage viewers to consider the consequences of everyday choices.
We encourage you to walk through the exhibit, read each panel, and think about moments in your life when you could have spoken up but did not. What stopped you? What could you have done differently? Do you think that the small action of speaking up for another could create change in your own community?
When you’re finished exploring the exhibit, we hope you’ll post your responses and check out books from our display to deepen your understanding.
