Happy New Year, Millville! We are excited to welcome you back to Ohrstrom Library after the winter break!
We have been thinking about the library displays and events of the past year, and how we learned so much by listening to other people’s lived experiences. To paraphrase educator Rudine Sims Bishop: “[People] need windows and mirrors. They need mirrors in which they see themselves and windows through which they see the world”. By celebrating our differences and similarities, we broaden our capacity for empathy and compassion.
As the School Prayer says, “…in all the joys of life we may never forget to be kind”. Let’s challenge ourselves this coming year to read more stories where we can see the world through someone else’s eyes. To get us started, we have put together this list of graphic novel memoirs. Feel free to stop by the main desk and ask us about our favorites!
