Meet Our Proctors!

posted in: Library News | 0

Here at Ohrstrom, we are very fortunate to have a small group of 5th and 6th Formers as our Library Proctors. These Proctors are a great help to us – they shelve books, work on projects for the librarians, staff the front desk, and do rounds (you have probably seen them walking around with a clicker!). Our evenings are so much easier thanks to this fabulous Proctor team! What is the best way to get to know a Proctor though? We thought about it, and then we asked each of them…

What do you enjoy most about working in the library?

Library Community

“Being able to engage with our community and amazing librarians!” – Tess ’26

“I enjoy greeting my friends when counting the number of people in the library.” – Matthew ’26

“The library is one of my favorite places on campus so having the opportunity to contribute to the library running efficiently and remain a valuable resource for the rest of the SPS community is something I truly enjoy.” – Dibora ’26

Library Atmosphere

“How serene it feels. I feel that everything can be so crazy at SPS and to just have an hour or so grounded in silent work – stacking books, cutting paper, or working desk duty – makes my day so much more relaxing and genuinely makes me happier.” – Diego ’25

“Seeing all the different people working very studiously.” – Junyi ’26

“The physical environment of the library is so beautiful in a way that primes you to be productive. The tower room and the classics room in particular instill me with a powerful feeling that I am surrounded by knowledge. I enjoy learning about and doing the work that goes into maintaining this special place that the whole community is able to enjoy.” – Harry ’26

Library Projects

“Two things that I enjoyed the most were working with Ms. Kittler and other librarians to write the library blog post about the World Language Collection as well as hosting the lunch station. This year, I also found book-covering very relaxing.” – Jenny ’25

“For me, one of the exciting parts of working in the library and the archives is uncovering hidden pieces of history and learning how these items connect to the present SPS. The items I handle—whether it’s an old yearbook, a map, or an unusual artifact—have a unique story, and piecing together its background feels like solving a mystery. I also enjoy helping people find exactly what they need and meeting new faces at the reception desk!” – Daisy ’25 (Archives Proctor)

“My favorite moments working in the library have always been working with people! I love chatting with the librarians, helping students check out books and seeing everyone as I walk around on counts. I especially love helping people get creative- recently, I’ve been able to do so through mini library craft workshops. The library is an incredible community and I’m so grateful that I’m in a position to help it grow and thrive.” – Julia ’25

Next time you are in the Library, be sure to say hello to our Proctors and thank them for doing such a great job!
